Taffy Pull

Makes about 6 batches of candy. Recipe is from Sandra Morris.

2 cups sugar

1 cup light molasses

1/4 cup water

2 tsp. vinegar

2 tbl. butter

1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cornstarch for pulling

1. Butter sides of a heavy pan. Combine sugar, molasses and water. Heat slowly, stirring constantly, and bring to a boil.

2. Add vinegar and cook to the light crack stage, 268 degrees.

3. Remove from heat and add butter and soda. Stir to mix.

4. Turn out on a large, buttered pan. For even cooling, use the spatula and turn edges to the center. Pull taffy while it is warm and can be handled. Use only the finger tips to pull, forming the taffy into long strands about 1/2-inch thick. Cut with butter scissors and wrap bite-sized pieces in wax paper.
