Naomi Patricia Gannon Aug. 10, 2014 Comments It’s official ITA College Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Simmons kicked off the Cajun Tennis Classic’s return to Lafayette with a swanky City Club news conference. Backed by a Who’s Who list of sponsors, including presenting sponsor Moss Motors, River Ranch, City Club, Louisiana Tennis Association, Schoeffler Energy Group, The Acadiana Advocate, Paul’s Jewelry, Louisiana Orthopedic Specialists, LaHaye Eye Care, Carriage House Hotel and Southern Lifestyle Development, eight teams will converge in Lafayette Sept. 16-21 on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Cajun Courts. “Lafayette’s the best city for hospitality and high-quality tennis,” said former LSU player and Simmons’ disciple Ged Schwing. “Jerry is perfect for the job. He’s very innovative.” Ready to go was UL Lafayette men’s tennis coach Mark Jeffrey and Sunbelt Conference champion Damian Farinola, Karen Daigle, Robert Daigle, City Club Executive Director Alan Jacobs, Hunter Roy and Sharon Moss. “What’s going to happen is, these teams are going to come here and have such a good time,” said Simmons. “Besides, winning coaches get a Tag Heuer.
