The National Charity League is a nationwide philanthropic organization that not only provides community service and leadership development but does this while fostering mother-daughter relationships during what can be tortuous teen years.

Recently, the local River Road Chapter recognized 36 mother-daughter teams with the Mother-Daughter Award for combined service of 50 hours or more at its annual Mother-Daughter Tea on May 4 at The Club at LSU Union Square. Vice President of Philanthropy Lisa Daigle reported that the chapter’s mothers and daughters served 4,967 hours in the 2013-14 year. Putting in an impressive 50 hours or more above the required amount to earn NCL’s Yellow Rosebud Award were Nina Jalenak, Anna Johannessen, Paige Melancon and Hannah Woodard.

The day’s agenda also included the introduction of a new board of directors. Beth O’Quinn, chapter president for the past two years, turned the gavel over to Kathy Liberty, who thanked O’Quinn for her leadership. Board members also include President-elect Sheri Gillio, membership Vice President Jane Verret, Ticktocker Vice President Michelle Levy, Daigle, activities Vice President Janet Talbot, communications Vice President Kelly Johannessen, Recording Secretary Stacy Garrett, Corresponding Secretary Kathleen Lovretich, Treasurer Valerie Webre and Parliamentarian Maia Jalenak.
