BR conference slated to help grandparents BR conference slated to help grandparents Advocate staff May 05, 2014 Comments A daylong program aimed at helping grandparents who are raising their grandchildren is scheduled for Friday, May 9. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Information Center of La. conference, “Challenges Faced — Success Achieved,” begins at 8 a.m. and will be held at Holiday Inn South, 9940 Airline Highway. The conference will include a workshop on issues faced by grandparents and kinship caregivers, a legal panel, information from various organizations, guest speakers and door prizes. Conference organizers say Louisiana has the third highest rate in the nation of children who are living with persons other than their parents. The grandparents organization, which is now 20 years old, works to assist grandparents and others who have taken on this responsibility.
