Keith Sonnier and Dickie Landry accepted the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s prestigious SPARK Award for their lifetime achievements in the arts. “We are so, so excited,” said Gordon Brooks, UL-Lafayette’s dean of College of the Arts. “They’re giants in the art world. The impact that they’ve made is phenomenal.” Originally from Mamou and Cecilia respectively, Sonnier and Landry attended the university in their early years, an experience Brooks credits with their success. “We’ve always had an amazing faculty,” he added. The artists received separate recognition, with Sonnier accepting his award at the Acadiana Center for the Arts the following evening. Following the footsteps of greatness were Sonny Monteleone, Steven Breaux, Kathleen Reed, local art legends Robert Dafford and Frances Pavy, Lisa Osborne, Rocky Perkins, Lee Gray, Dr. Veronica Adoun and daughter Tolu, Cherry Fisher May and man-about-town Donald Leblanc.
