The Herb Society of America will find out “What’s Happening at Burden?” when it gathers March 27.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Burden Conference Center, 4560 Essen Lane. Free for HSA members, $5 for others.
The meeting is a time to find out about the hundreds of acres, forests and plants, gardens, the Rural Life Museum, agricultural test plots, beehives and more than make up Burden.
The Herb Society is working with LSU to create a Historical Herb Garden next to the Children’s Garden, where the herbs used by the ethnic groups that lived and settled in the Baton Rouge area will be shown in gardens appropriate to the ethnicity.
There will be French herbs, Italian herbs, Native American herbs, African-American herbs, Spanish herbs and more.
The Burden Center staff will talk about the plans for the center.
