Krewe of Xanadu represents Zodiac

The Krewe of Xanadu held its 24th annual ball Friday in the Cajundome Convention Center. The ball was dedicated to Liz Trahan, King Xanadu II George Rodrigue, Mark Rosenzweig and David Henry.

The theme of the ball was “Xanadu’s Celestial Calendar,” and the royal court represented various aspects of the Zodiac.

Dwayne Guidry presented the American flag and Dennis Pontiff presented the Louisiana flag. Singing the “Star Spangled Banner” were Carrie Fite Leonard and Leah Fite Sullivan.

The Xanadu Amusers opened the night of festivities parading down the runway to the sound of Mardi Gras music. Entertainment included krewe members, the “Xanadudettes” performing various musical numbers.

Reigning over the festivities were Queen Xanadu XXIV Lori LeBlanc Landry and King Xanadu XXIV Darryl Joseph Myers.

The queen is accounting/land manager of Bean Resources and co-owner of Big Shot Promotions. She is married to David James Landry and has one son, Colby Matthieu.

The king is owner of M&J Valve Services. He is married to Lena Bertrand Myers. They have two children, Blaire Myers and Jonathon Myers.

Ball Captain Sandy Huval made her entrance as the Goddess of the Zodiac. Huval is an assistant principal at Erath High School, and is married to Kelly Huval. They have one son Timothy.

Each member of the court, Xanadu’s nine Greek Muses, represented one of the Zodiac signs.

Cydney Begnaud, Urania, Xanadu’s head Muse, represented Gemini and was escorted by Glenn Begnaud. Dr. Julie Broussard, Terpsichore, represented the sign Sagittarius and was escorted by Dr. Brad Broussard.

Representing Cancer was Cindy Cobb, Thalia, escorted by Darrell Cobb. Stephanie Fakier, Clio, represented Leo and was escorted by Norman Fakier.

Lenora Krielow, Calliope, represented the sign Aries and was escorted by Ed Krielow. Representing Libra was Sandra Le-Bouef, Polyhymnia, escorted by Ronnie LeBouef.

Joan Moody, Erato, portrayed Pisces and was escorted by William Moody III. Barbara Richard, Euterpe, represented the sign Taurus and was escorted by Robert Richard. Representing Scorpio was Lane Walker, Melpomene, escorted by Dr. James Walker.

Messenger for the ball was Olivia Gordon, godchild of King Xanadu XXIV, Darryl Myers.

The president of the Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association John W. Bordelon and his wife, Suzanne, visited the ball along with Lafayette City-Parish Chief Administrative Officer Dee Stanley and his wife, Blue Rolfes.
