Pam’s Party Line for Dec. 29, 2013

Only three more days left in 2013, a year that seemed to fly by in a flurry of social events and news headlines. Before it wraps up, though, I have to clue you in on a few things.

‘Seasons of Louisiana’

One being that buddy Peter Sclafani, chef extraordinaire and co-owner of Ruffino’s Restaurants (both here in Baton Rouge and in Lafayette), penned his first cookbook, “Seasons of Louisiana.” He was signing copies just in time for gift giving at a book-signing event hosted by Matherne’s Supermarket Kenilworth on Dec. 20. The title comes from the unique way Peter has categorized the recipes — not as appetizers, entrees and desserts but as how we live here in South Louisiana — crawfish season, seafood season, hunting season, et cetera. The recipes are a gumbo of Sclafani family favorites, Ruffino’s favorites and Peter’s cooking class favorites.

It may be too late for Christmas, but Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it.

Karnival Krewe

Also getting in some celebrating over the holidays was Karnival Krewe de Louisiane, which fêted its debutantes at a brunch Dec. 8 at the Baton Rouge Country Club. Welcoming the girls, their parents, krewe board members and other guests were President Lance Lemoine and immediate Past President Jill Van Longendonck. Among those guests were Queen Karen Stephens, King Steve Carville and Ball Captain Donna Fraiche.

Be safe

As you ring in the New Year, have fun but remember to be safe. I want to see you at a party in 2014!
