Christmas concerts

The Iberville Parish Choir will present its fourth Annual Sounds of Christmas Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter Baptist Church, 58116 Court St., Plaquemine.

Musicians include Pastor Van Smith Jr.; music coordinator/ director Alcide Simmons; Bobby Williams; directors Richelle Richardson, the Rev. Michael Pearl, the Rev. Calvin Emery, Denise Walker, Donald Richardson,and Brandon Sparks and Divine Presence Dance Ministry. Narrators include the Revs. Gregory Coates, Clyde McNell; Chris Butler, Shauna Johnson, John Jordan and Lee T. Wesley.

The Prophecy, The Birth, the Life Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus will be performed through scripture, narratives, drama, song and dance. Doors will open at 3:15 p.m.

This event is sponsored by the Iberville Parish Ministers Conference. Wesley is president; Smith is the vice president and music coordinator.

Greenwell Springs Baptist Church

Greenwell Springs Baptist Church’s resident 100-voice choir and 15-piece orchestra, with guest musicians from LSU and Southeastern Louisiana University, will perform their new Christmas concert, “Two Worlds,” at 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, 19421 Greenwell Springs Road.

Taking the name from their pastor Jeff Meyer’s Christmas sermon series “When Two Worlds Collide,” the Christmas concert confronts the challenge of creating a vibrant Christmas worship service while balancing the desire for Christmas tradition.

The audience will experience the warmth of traditional carols wrapped in hold-onto-your-hat-rhythm-driven orchestrations.

St. Paul Lutheran Church

St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2021 Tara Blvd., will host its annual Christmas concert with carols and music for all ages at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The concert will feature music by the St. Paul Choir and the St. Paul Handbell Choir performing “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” and “A Joyful Ring.” Choir director and opera singer Hasmig Aroian will sing “What Sweeter Music” by Eleanor Daley in a duet with singer Angela Balis.

There will also be a trumpet duet by Brian Falcon and Craig Heinzen, guitar performance by Peter Wright and a flute solo by Balis. The musical event concludes with a singalong of favorite Christmas carols. The event is free, but nonperishable food and/or monetary donations will be accepted for the St. Paul Good Samaritan Food Bank.
