Southern celebrates Homecoming Southern celebrates Homecoming Miss Southern University Ayanna Spivey Advocate story Oct. 26, 2013 Comments Miss Southern University Ayanna Spivey and her court will reign over Homecoming activities on campus this week. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the 83rd Annual Miss Southern Coronation will be held in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on campus. The coronation is the crowning ceremony that officially initiates Miss Southern into the “Miss Southern Club.” Spivey, a native of Moreno, Calif., is a senior majoring in social work. She will be joined by her royal court, which includes Miss Senior Gabrielle Lewis, a criminal justice major and psychology minor from Winnsboro; Miss Junior Channing Evans, a nursing major from Slidell; Miss Sophomore Alison Bonton, a nursing major from Dupont; and Miss Freshmen Sarah Thanni, a biology major from Baton Rouge. All past Miss Southerns are invited to attend the occasion as well as the royal courts from Southern University system campuses in New Orleans and Shreveport, the SUBR dorm queens and the court from the Southern University Laboratory School. The theme for Spivey’s coronation is Old Hollywood. The attire for the event is formal black or black and white. Other events during Homcoming week include: On Monday, Spirit Day, convocation, art exhibit, fashion and comedy show; Wednesday, health fair; Thursday, pep rally, alumni open house and concert; and Friday, Family Day, alumni round up, Greek show and Gala on the Bluff. Saturday’s Homecoming Day festivities kick off with the parade at 8 a.m. and wrap up with the game against Alcorn State University at 5:30 p.m. in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
