Habitat for Humanity taking entries for arts auction Habitat for Humanity taking entries for arts auction Advocate staff report Oct. 16, 2013 Comments Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge is now accepting art submissions for the fifth annual Repurposing with a Purpose: Annual Auction of Artful Creations from Recycled Items. Deadline to submit entries is Nov. 1. The show will open on Nov. 4 and remain open until the art auction reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 7, hosted by Habitat for Humanity GBR in conjunction with the Arts Council of Baton Rouge. It will be held at the Arts Council Community Gallery, 427 Laurel St. The event is a great way to celebrate National Recycling Week while supporting Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit dedicated to eradicating poverty housing. To be considered for the show: Artwork must be constructed from at least one reclaimed item from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The dimensions of finished artwork may not exceed 4 feet by 4 feet. Visit habitatbr.org (under Events) and complete an entry form. Habitat reserves the right to refuse any artwork. Only two submissions per artist will be accepted. The Habitat ReStore, 4301 Airline Highway, offers $50 vouchers to be used at the ReStore for this project only. To receive a voucher, visit habitatbr.org (under Events) and fill out the entry form or call (225) 927-6651 to get a voucher mailed to you. All artwork will be juried by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. The minimum bid will be established by the artist and jurors, and the final bid determined by the jurors.
