WHAT: Red Stick Regional Scottish Piping Competition.

DETAILS: There will be a fully sanctioned drumming competition as well as solo piping events, along with a drumming workshop. There is no charge to listen.

LaHouse open house

See hurricane and flood-hardy features for new and existing homes.

WHAT: LSU AgCenter’s LaHouse Home and Landscape Resource Center open house.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

WHERE: LaHouse Resource Center, off Nicholson Drive, 2858 Gourrier Ave., Baton Rouge.

DETAILS: The event will focus on home improvements that protect a homeowner’s investment and minimize potential damage from high winds, flooding and other natural hazards. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the demonstration home, explore the home’s library and speak with AgCenter housing specialists. A donation of $5 per adult is requested to help support its educational programming and exhibits.

Black & Orange Bash

It might not seem like it, but it’s time to think about Halloween.

WHAT: 10/31 Consortium’s Black & Orange Bash, the group’s signature kick off to Halloween.

WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

WHERE: The Woman’s Club, 259 East Blvd., Baton Rouge.

DETAILS: The group, which puts on an annual Halloween parade, will party with a royal coronation, grand marshal announcement, silent auction, food, a cash bar, music, dancing and door prizes. Wear black and orange. Cost is $10 for members and $31 for nonmembers. Bring non-perishable food items and/or new or gently used costumes.

‘Christmas in July’

WHAT: West Baton Rouge Historical Association’s “Christmas in July” Card Party.
