Bonsai Society has clinic, eyes workshop

The Louisiana Bonsai Society held a clinic on June 18 to discuss problems members have with bonsai and how they are correcting them.

Members made plans for a bonsai workshop to be led by Mike Rogers, of DeLand, Fla. He has taught bonsai for more than 30 years.

Armstrong addresses Altrusa Club of BR

Annabelle Armstrong spoke about the book she wrote about some of Baton Rouge’s older neighborhoods when the Altrusa Club of Baton Rouge met on June 17 at Drusilla Seafood Restaurant. Membership Chairwoman Amy Drago initiated new members Judy Stracener and Mary Lynn Andermann. They were sponsored by Nadine Mann and President Jackie Robbins.

Giving reports were Treasurer Carol Davis, Foundation Treasurer Cherryl Alford and Service Committee members Lynn Nettles, Gerry Malone, Donna Embree, Janie Starks and Chairwoman Jan Holmes.

Holmes said the club has begun receiving $50 restaurant gift cards for the annual fundraiser, “An Evening of Fine Dining.” The raffle will be held Nov. 18.

Marti Didier announced that the Altrusa International Convention will be held July 24-28 in New Zealand. For information on Altrusa service projects, contact Holmes, (225) 810-3203, or Laura Rhorer, (225) 767-7021.
