“Pop Quiz” column for July 3, 2013

Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Branden Barker, 32, commercial sales and leasing agent for Latter & Blum and coordinator of the False River Fourth of July Boat Parade.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “I have an extensive and eclectic mix of songs on my iPod with an emphasis on R&B, rock, funk and blues. I am a huge fan of the blues. Our parade theme this year is ‘Tribute to Louisiana Music Legends,’ and growing up in Pointe Coupee Parish I’ve always been a tremendous fan of Buddy Guy. I’ve seen him play all over, but there is something special about when he comes back home.”

WHAT I’M READING: “With a 4-year-old and a 10-month-old, my reading selections have been limited to children’s books about frogs, superheroes and Dr. Seuss.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: e_SDLqI was just introduced to ‘Arrested Development’ on Netflix. I never watched when it aired, but I am catching up online. This is definitely one of the funniest shows ever on television.”

e_SDLqThe Louisiana Commercial Database (lacdb.com), which is a commercial real estate listing service, and the (Business Report’s) Daily Report.”

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “It would have to be Heavenly Hash. I always look forward to Easter and usually stock up the fridge. In fact, I just finished my last one.”

Why does your family keep organizing the Fourth of July parade?

“Growing up on False River, the parade has always been something we looked forward to. From the decorating to the water balloons, the parade offers something for everyone. This is our 10th year coordinating the parade and each year has been a blast. I think what I love the most about the parade is it is both open and private. Anyone is welcome to join in on the fun — there are no fees or registration required — and anyone who has a boat is welcome to join in on the parade. However, there is no public area to watch, so you need to have a boat or camp on the parade route to enjoy. For more information on the parade, search False River Fourth of July Boat Parade on Facebook.”
