DETAILS: The Gumbo Championships is a national qualifying event for the 2014 National Championships. This year it will also include the 2013 Senior IV National Championships for amateur couples age 65 and up. The competition involves dancers from throughout the country performing some 15 different dances. The public is invited. Burns worked for 38 years in higher education, three decades of which were at LSU. He is a charter member of the LCHR and has been active in promoting social justice in the community. Ben, a graduate of the LSU School of Social Work, is a licensed clinical social worker and serves as the Department of Health and Hospital’s Office of Behavioral Health regional administrator in the Acadiana Human Services District.
