Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Eric Howell, 51, Scout executive/CEO for Istrouma Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “Mostly if I want music I turn on 97.7 (FM, Downtown Radio), and then if I want to listen to people talk, 107.3 (Talk 107.3). Sixties and ’70s music. It helps me connect back. It’s good listening music. I have a couple of CDs in my car. People laugh at me. I have a six-CD changer, and I have four CDs. I should buy two more.”

WHAT I’M READING: “Reading the trade magazines, the Business Report. There’s a book I’m rereading, ‘Now Discover Your Strengths,’ a book put together by guys named Buckingham and Clifton. It’s a Gallup StrengthsFinder book. Everybody has strengths at the ready, normal processes. Some things you have to work harder on.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “I’m re-watching ‘The West Wing.’ My wife got me the DVD version. Now I found it on Netflix, so I can see it anywhere and I don’t have to worry about it. I’m trying to find out ‘what’s next.’”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I visit the standard Boy Scout websites. Most of my website searching now is more maps and radar and the weather and just learning how to get around in Baton Rouge again. I graduated from LSU, but y’all put a bunch of new roads in and added traffic.”

“I’m getting mad at Penn and Teller. I got hooked on Swirtle. I’ve got to watch ‘The Apprentice,’ and they had a final contest, which is making ice cream for Walgreens, and Penn, of Penn and Teller fame, created an ice cream called Swirtle, which is mixed up vanilla ice cream with turtle chocolate in it, and I have to say it’s good. It only comes in single servings, so that’s good.”

What are your favorite summer activities?

“I love to go to camps, especially Boy Scout camps and be a part of their activities and see the kids have fun and see if there’s any way to help. It’s great because Camp Avondale, which is our Boy Scout camp, has three lakes on it. So my other guilty pleasure may be going fishing. I’ve got three or four fishing holes that need exploring out at Camp Avondale, and I’ve got a camp down south on the Gulf of Mexico to do my speck and redfishing. So I just moved back from Texas, so fishing and hiking and going camping, they’re all back high on the list.”
