‘Volunteer’ for May 19, 2013

CLINIC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, Ochsner Medical Center — La Marylis Newman, (225) 755-4986: Ochsner has multiple opportunities for people to volunteer at various locations in Baton Rouge. They include: surgery waiting, front information desk and patient surveys, Interstate 12 and O’Neal on Medical Center Drive; and clerical and greeter, clinics at Summa and Picardy (near the Mall of Louisiana), Jefferson Highway (near Essen Lane), Baton Rouge and Plaza I - Medical Center Drive (next to the hospital). Volunteers work in two shifts: 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Participants are asked to volunteer for one shift per week. For more information, call Newman from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

TUTOR RECRUITMENT HAPPENING NOW, Adult Literacy Advocates — Michelle Vining, (225) 383-1090 or michelle@adultliteracyadvocates.org: Be part of the literacy solution by volunteering for Adult Literacy Advocates. There are several different ways to get involved. Volunteer training is scheduled this month. If interested, contact Vining.

LOOKING FOR A REWARDING VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE? GaitWay Therapeutic Horsemanship — Shelly Rose, (225) 766-1614 or info@gaitway.org: GaitWay Therapeutic Horsemanship, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of people of all ages with cognitive, physical or emotional disabilities through the benefits of therapeutic riding and hippotherapy, needs volunteers. A comprehensive training program will be provided for all interested parties. Previous experience with horses is not necessary. For more information, contact Rose.

FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, Together Baton Rouge — Edgar Cage, edgarcage@att.net: Together Baton Rouge and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank have partnered to provide fresh, healthy food to residents of the Scotlandville area — the largest food desert in East Baton Rouge Parish. Volunteers are needed at the Scotlandville Healthy Food Pantry at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church from 8 a.m. to noon June 8 and June 22. If interested in volunteering, contact Cage.

RUN WALK & ROLL, McMains Children’s Developmental Center — Eunice McCarney, (225) 923-3420 or emccarney@mcmainscdc.org: Volunteers are needed to help with this 5K event on June 1 at the North Boulevard Town Square. McMains needs help with set-up and take-down as well as volunteers to be on the course to cheer, provide direction and hand out water.
