Jackson’s research interests include university policy and state laws — more specifically, African-Americans serving as the highest-ranking university executive officer, impact on governance and relationships with state officials/university governing boards. Whitmore served as the assistant director of Greek Life at LSU from 2009-12, advising six fraternities/sororities, the National Pan-Hellenic Council and seven executive board members, along with the NPHC Greek Judicial Board. SOUTHERN REVIEW’S ADAMS RECEIVES FELLOWSHIP: Cara Blue Adams, co-editor of The Southern Review, published quarterly by LSU Press, has been awarded a fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. The VCCA offers residencies to pre-eminent writers, composers and visual artists. While in residence at the VCCA from April 15-26, she worked on completing a collection of short stories titled “At the Appointed Hour.” Adams’ fiction and nonfiction have appeared in The Sun, The Kenyon Review, Ploughshares and other national magazines. Military JACKSON RETIRES FROM MARINE CORPS: Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Blaine Jackson, son of Ida Jackson, of Brusly, and Henderson Jackson, of Plaquemine, recently received a Legion of Merit and retired after 30 years of honorable service while assigned with Marine Aircraft Group 41, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas. Jackson led 2,700 Marines and sailors and managed eight commands dispersed across six states while focused on the development and supportability of the commands. Some of his decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. Jackson is a 1983 graduate of Plaquemine High School. JOHNSON COMPLETES BASIC: Marine Corps Pfc. Clifford A. Johnson, son of Charla M. and Clifford A. Johnson, of Gonzales, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Johnson is a 2012 graduate of East Ascension High School. Reunions SCHITTONE FAMILY: The 67th annual Schittone family reunion will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the UCT Hall, 11175 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge.
