Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.
QUIZ TAKER: David C. Aguillard, 54, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “REM, Shawn Colvin, Sly & the Family Stone, John Hiatt.”
WHAT I’M READING: “I’m always reading a bunch of stuff at once.
Currently: ‘The World Until Yesterday’ by Jared Diamond, ‘If the Buddha Dated’ by Charlotte Kasl, ‘The Way the Crow Flies’ by Ann-Marie MacDonald, ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Victor Frankl (again), ‘Nightwoods’ by Charles Frazier and ‘The Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church’ … a real sleeper.”
WHAT I’M WATCHING: “Been enthralled by ‘The Following’ with Kevin Bacon, but it recently got too far-fetched.
I usually watch a little each night on one of the science or history channels. ‘Through the Wormhole’ with Morgan Freeman at times gets you thinking differently. Almost any documentary keeps my interest, especially Werner Herzog’s.”
WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I usually start with Yahoo because it’s got both the latest news as well as something bizarre. After that, it’s newsy sites — New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post — or something that piques my curiosity like http://www.space.com.”
WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “Nuke a Pepperidge Farm Caramel Apple Pie cookie for four seconds and mash it up in some softened Bryer’s Vanilla Bean.”
What does spring mean to you?
“Start looking forward to time with my parents, brothers and sister and all our kids fishing out of Grand Isle.”
