La. residents Steer, Taylor advance to ‘Idol’ viewer voting La. residents Steer, Taylor advance to ‘Idol’ viewer voting Steer Advocate staff report March 12, 2013 Comments Two area singers are still in the running as “American Idol” heads into live shows starting Tuesday. Breanna Steer, 18, of LaPlace, and Burnell Taylor, 19, of New Orleans, made it into “Idol’s” top 20 last week. “I want to show them more of my personality, what my voice can do,” Steer said in an interview on the “Idol” website. “I just want to continue to grow no matter how far I get,” Taylor said. Brandy Hotard, of Port Allen, was eliminated during the Las Vegas round of competition that decided the top 20, while Kara Petry, of Baton Rouge, and Megan Miller, of Ethel, were among those sent home earlier during the Hollywood round, which had narrowed the hundreds of successful auditioners to 40. “Idol” judge Randy Jackson, a native of Baton Rouge, told Steer and Taylor during last week’s shows that they’re “making my home state proud.” Also, starting after Tuesday’s show, viewers can begin to vote via phone, text, online or through the “American Idol” app for their favorites to make it into the top 10, which will be announced on Thursday’s show. All three shows this week will air from Las Vegas.
