POP QUIZ: Hillary Christiansen

Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Hillary Christiansen, 26, development manager, Girl Scouts Louisiana East

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “I’m really all over the place in the music that I listen to mostly because I appreciate so many different styles — anything from pop to country to classic rock. Right now I’m listening to a lot of Mumford and Sons and Avett Brothers, but will always have a soft spot in my heart for Kenny Chesney (We’re from the same hometown of Knoxville, Tenn.!).”

WHAT I’M READING: “Probably a confession I shouldn’t be making to a newspaper, but I get most of my news online with the exception of making sure I pick up the Gambit each week to see the goings on around town! I do enjoy reading, mostly Southern fiction. My two favorite books are the ‘YaYa Sisterhood’ (Rebecca Wells) and ‘Prince of Tides’ (Pat Conroy). I’m also super crafty so I spend a lot of time with Martha Stewart Living!”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “I watch more TV than I should. Honestly, you name a show, I watch it. But my favorite shows right now are ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘Downton Abbey,’ ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta.’ Each year around this time I make a point of watching all of the Oscar-nominated movies, and my favorite this year is ‘Argo’ .”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I have an addiction, and it is Pinterest. I’m a crafter and I love stalking around on Pinterest for my next big project, whether it be making my own jewelry to recovering furniture and to making trivets out of all the wine corks I accumulate. I’m ready to try anything that strikes my fancy! I also spend hours each week pinning home décor so that I’m ready to decorate my dream home as soon as it comes my way! I love reading blogs, mostly about fashion and home décor, but one of my favorite local blogs is Blackened Out to get my foodie fix.”

WHAT’S MY GUILTY PLEASURE? “I have been married for four years, and don’t plan on having another wedding, but I still spend time obsessing on the perfect wedding. I read wedding blogs (Knot and WeddingBee), I watch Wedding TV shows (‘Say Yes to the Dress,’ ‘Four Weddings,’ ‘Platinum Weddings’), I stalk Pinterest for wedding ideas, and I even have a scrapbook of things I like from weddings and events that I attend. Crazy but true!”

BONUS QUESTION:

What did scouting do for you as a girl?

“I was a Girl Scout from kindergarten to sixth grade. I am still close with many of those girls today and love reminiscing on our time in Girl Scouts! I am an only child and I have to say that Girl Scouts gave me the sisters I never had in the form of close friends that I knew would love and support me unconditionally. In addition to helping me develop leadership skills, Girl Scouts also instilled a commitment to community service in me from an early age.”

Christiansen is forming Girl Scouts alumnae groups across south Louisiana for former Girl Scouts. For information, email her at
