Lenten Friday lunches

The women’s gumbo team at St. James Episcopal is stirring it up.

WHAT: St. James Episcopal Church’s Lenten Gumbo Lunch.

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Friday through March 22.

WHERE: St. James Episcopal Church, 205 N. Fourth St., Baton Rouge.

INFORMATION: (225) 387-5141 to phone in pick-up orders.

DETAILS: Choose either shrimp gumbo or chicken and sausage gumbo, along with Sensation Salad, bread and a dessert. Dine-in customers also receive water, tea or coffee. Drive-thru pickup of boxed lunches is also available. Phone in pickup orders between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Friday. Cost is $10. Proceeds go to outreach projects.

Smoking cessation

Need some help with that New Year’s resolution to put down those cigarettes?

WHAT: The Capital Area Human Services District tobacco cessation program.

DETAILS: The free program uses trained facilitators in the American Lung Association’s “Freedom from Smoking” program to provide classes at locations in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana parishes. Call for a locations and start dates. Nicotine replacement patches are provided to participants at no charge. Also offered is free telephone counseling for all Louisiana residents age 13 and older who are ready to quit within the next 30 days. The Louisiana Tobacco Quitline ((800) QUIT-NOW) is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
