WALKER COMMISSIONED PILOT: Capt. Matthew Walker, of Baton Rouge, was commissioned a New Orleans-Baton Rouge Steamship Pilot by Gov. Bobby Jindal on Jan. 16.

Walker received a bachelor of science degree in marine transportation in 2010 from Texas A&M University, where he served in leadership roles in the U.S. Maritime Service Corps of Cadets.

He is the son of Lyle and Tina Walker, of Baton Rouge; grandson of Capt. W.O. and Shirley Watson Jr., of Baton Rouge, and Jimmye Walker, of Jackson, Miss.; and is a graduate of Parkview Baptist School.
