Saturday, Burden is observing a late Arbor Day because of heavy rains earlier this year.Arbor Day, Jan. 18, found the Burden Center and the rest of Baton Rouge too soggy to plant trees so Burden will observe its own Arbor Day on Saturday. Events include family tree plantings and a 5-K Fun Hike through “Trees and Trails.” The Burden Horticultural Society conducts Project Learning Tree at Burden. Enter Burden at 4560 Essen Lane at I-10. Admission is $5 per person. Each family gets a tree seedling to plant from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Other activities include making leaf stamps, a scavenger hunt and visits with Smokey Bear. Trail mix and water will be provided to tree planters and hikers.
