Advocate story Jan. 03, 2013 Comments BSP chapter hears about Mighty Moms Beth Clark of the Mighty Moms spoke to Laureate Alpha Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi on Dec. 4 at Portico Restaurant. Mighty Moms provides food, hygiene, shoes and clothes for children who are at risk for weekend hunger. Breakfast, lunch and dinner items, snacks and juice are placed in bags and delivered to local schools each week. The program was started in 2010 by a group of mothers who noticed children who were at risk of hunger on weekends. Field receives honor from GOP women Capital City Republican Women held its Christmas celebration, installation of 2013 officers and awards reception on Dec. 6 at the City Club. Outgoing Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Jimmy Field received the 2012 Donald Ray Kennard Legacy Achievement Award from Stacy Kennard-Doucet and President Sarah Holliday. State Rep. Valarie Hodges spoke about Kennard’s legacy. Metro Councilman Scott Wilson attended. Elizabeth Dent installed 2013 officers: Wanza Holliday-Bell, president; Sarah Holliday, first vice president; Oula Mawas, corresponding secretary; Bessie Banks-Ford, treasurer; Morena Cazedessus, second vice president; and Debbie Kuehne, recording secretary. The 2010-12 board members received an oval paperweight for their service. Holliday received the Leadership and Courage Award from CCRW.
