Advocate story Dec. 29, 2012 Comments WWII home front topic for DAR event The Iberville Parish Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution heard a program on the World War II home front when it met on Nov. 27 at the West Baton Rouge Parish Museum. Museum staff member Linda Collins narrated the program as told by a woman living in Port Allen during the war. Collins was dressed in a female work outfit from the period and used a set that included a radio. The radio was used to present different speeches and news reports. She talked about the various jobs that women did to help the war effort and about the German prisoners of war held in a Port Allen camp. After the program, several chapter members and a guest spoke about the war period. Most were children at the time but retained vivid memories. La. Museum Friends get fundraiser update Lana Venable gave an update on the fundraiser scheduled for June 8, 2013, when Louisiana State Museum Friends held a board meeting on Nov. 27 at the Capitol Park Museum. Museum Division Director Bill Stark announced upcoming museum events. Robert Freeland will speak on Louisiana’s involvement in Central American Revolutions on Jan. 24. Ben Pierce will chair a committee to discuss the feasibility of a Mardi Gras party on the day of the Spanish Town Parade. For information on the group, contact Frances Bennett, (225) 926-4710. Air Force Association has Christmas event Two former and one current member of the LSU Air Force ROTC cadre participated in the Maj. Gen. Oris B. Johnson Chapter of the Air Force Association meeting and Christmas program on Nov. 27. The current corps commander, Col. Marston McKeon, participated along with Judge Luke Lavergne, a retired Air Force captain and LSU instructor from 1975-79, and retired Col. Phil Jones, corps commander from 1992-95 and the current chapter president. Past chapter and state AFA President Mike Cammarosano, LSU ROTC cadets and Silver Wings members also attended.
