“Style File” column for Dec. 18, 2012
NAME: William Roy.
AGE: “30-plus.”
OCCUPATION: Retail sales.
Tell us about what you’re wearing.
“Well, men’s fashion can be so boring, I like to kick things up. I’m wearing a basic vintage mock turtleneck top, a white vintage BCBG Max Azria jacket with vintage pants. The shoes are Kenneth Cole, and the glasses are Dolce & Gabana.”
What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever gotten?
“It was from a dear friend of mine in Europe. He always said make sure you wear the outfit; don’t let the outfit wear you.”
What’s your favorite trend right now?
“I have to say the peplum jacket — for men and women. And any big cocktail ring or big glasses.”
Finish this sentence. I splurge on...
“Big glasses, cocktail rings and shoes.”
I skimp on...
“I’ve never heard of that word!”
What’s your favorite accessory — shoes, ties, hats, etc?
“With me, accessories are the best. I always like a good clutch; I don’t carry it every day but for special occasions. And you need to have a statement ring for every outfit.”
Name a celebrity whose closet you’d like to raid.
“Without a doubt, Grace Jones, the fashion diva of the century … in a minute.”
What’s the one beauty product you can’t live without?
“Moisturizing cream.”
What was your worst fashion mistake?
“The ’80s … what a Maalox moment!”
Your house is on fire and you can grab only one thing out of your closet; what would it be?
“My Jean Paul Gaultier sweater. It’s a great piece. He only made three and I have one of them.”
