Dec 16, 2012 18:57 8 debutantes introduced at Delta Sigma Theta tea 8 debutantes introduced at Delta Sigma Theta tea Destini Donyelle Finley Advocate staff report Dec. 16, 2012 Comments The Louisiana Tri-Parish Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. hosted its annual Debutante Presentation Tea on Dec. 2 at the Julian Poydras Cultural Center in New Roads. Eight young women were introduced at the event that had a theme of “This is Our Time.” They are Destini Donyelle Finley, Ciara Mykal Franklin, Aliyah Janay Joseph, Jennifer Margaret McQuirter, Paris J’nae Rodney, Mary KhadiJah Solomon, Z’keyah La’Ray Warr and Kierra Jashae Williams. Destini Donyelle Finley is the daughter of Vickie Finley and the late Gregory Dawson. She is a senior at Capitol High School, where she is Miss Capitol High and a member of the Lions basketball, track and dance teams. Ciara Mykal Franklin, the royal princess, is the daughter of Michael Franklin and Consuela Porche-Franklin. She is a junior at Pointe Coupee Central High School, where she is active in volleyball and basketball. Aliyah Janay Joseph is the daughter of Robert L. Joseph and Chawn W. Joseph. She is a senior at Baton Rouge Magnet High School, where she is a member of the African Heritage Club, choir, Bulldogs Against Trafficking and Students Against Destructive Decisions, and serves as an office assistant. Jennifer Margaret McQuirter is the daughter of Robert L. Joseph and Arlene C. Joseph. She is a senior at Scotlandville Magnet High School, where is a member of the Beta Club, Entrepreneurship Business Club and the Fellowship of Christian Students. She is also a member of Delta GEMS. Paris J’nea Rodney is the daughter of Raymond M. Rodney Jr. and Shiletta F. Rodney. She is a junior at Madison Prep Academy, where she is a member of the homecoming court, Chargers dance team, softball team and Key Club. Mary KhadiJah Solomon is the daughter of Mary Barbara Solomon and the late Curtis Ray Nelson. She is a junior at Pointe Coupee Central High School, where she is a member of the ROTC program, basketball team and serves as junior class treasurer. Z’keyah La’Ray Warr is the daughter of Walter Warr III and Pamela L. Warr. She is a senior at Livonia High School, where she is a member of the Beta Club, Student Senate and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Kierra Jashae Williams is the daughter of Anthony Williams and Nathondra Simmons. She is a junior at Pointe Coupee Central High School, where she is a member of the basketball team; volleyball team; and track and field team. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1913. Louisiana Tri-Parish Alumnae Chapter was chartered in 2002 in New Roads. The debutante program benefits the chapter’s scholarship. As an arm of its youth development initiative, the young women attend life skills sessions, participate in cultural enrichment programs and perform a community service project. The debutante season will culminate with the Grand Cotillion Ball on Jan. 26. Rena Ramsey-Caldwell is cotillion chair, and Lee Audrey Porche is co-chair.
