“Pop Quiz” column for Nov. 28, 2012

Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Lori Halvorson, 27, program manager at City Year Baton Rouge.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “My current favorite song is “Next to Me” by Emeli Sande, but I also love K’naan and most every single Christmas song.”

WHAT I’M READING: “My monthly Vanity Fair, The Advocate and the third book of the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ series! Next on my list is ‘Un dimanche a la piscine a Kigali’ (‘A Sunday at the Pool in Kigali’) by Gil Courtemanche.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “I love the guarantee of turning to TBS nearly any time and always catching either ‘Family Guy’ or ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ but soon ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas will have my full attention.”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “I check the BBC, CNN & http://www.People.com religiously — I have to get the news from every angle! I can also get very easily sucked into http://www.Sporcle.com. My mom and I try to challenge each other with different quizzes (I love the geography ones!).”

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “I’m pretty sure my answer to (WHAT I’M READING) counts, but I’ll also admit that I love blaring musical soundtracks while singing along at the top of my lungs in my car. ‘Les Miz’ and ‘Martin Guerre’ are my favorites!”

BONUS QUESTION:

How early is too early to start listening to Christmas music?

“Officially, it shouldn’t happen until the day after Thanksgiving; but let’s be real — I may have already switched to my Christmas playlist.”
