Iberville DAR hears about early hotelier
Yvonne Lewis Day spoke on Madame Legendre, of Baton Rouge, an early hotelier, when the Iberville Parish Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met on Sept. 25 at The Island Country Club in Plaquemine.
Harriet Lard, Community Service Committee chairwoman, presented the Flag of Remembrance to Jack Sarradet, Regent Sue Blanchard’s father. Sarradet was honored for his service with the Addis VFW, McKinley Bourg American Legion and the West Baton Rouge Honor Guard. The Honor Guard serves at funerals of area veterans.
Lard earlier presented the Flag of Heroes to the Plaquemine Fire Department and to the Port Allen Fire Department to fly on Sept. 11 in remembrance of first responders who died in the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. Profits from the sale of this flag go to a scholarship fund for the children of firefighters and emergency personnel who died.
The chapter has donated books about the updated Louisiana flag to the school boards in Iberville and West Baton Rouge for distribution to middle schools. The state DAR has agreed to distribute these to school districts in Louisiana.
