Ryan Chenevert, Cosmopolitan magazine’s Bachelor of the Year for Louisiana, was named the 2012 Cosmopolitan Bachelor of the Year Thursday at a party hosted by the magazine at the Copacabana in New York City’s Times Square.
Chenevert, who graduated from Parkview Baptist School, LSU and the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, was announced as the Louisiana winner in May.
“I still don’t believe it,” said Chenevert, who missed his flight back to Baton Rouge Friday to appear on “Morning Buzz” on VH1. The program’s hostess, Carrie Keagan, was master of ceremonies for the announcement party. She presented Chenevert with a check for $10,000.
The 10 state winners who received the most votes on Cosmopolitan’s website were the finalists for the national title. The overall winner was picked by the editors of Cosmopolitan from the 10 finalists.
Joanna Coles, Cosmopolitan’s editor in chief, told Chenevert that he had the highest number of votes on the website. “She said that in the eight years they have been doing the contest, Ryan was the first overall winner who actually had the most votes on the website,” said Peggy Chenevert, Ryan Chenevert’s mother. She heard the news at 8:30 p.m., while she was having dinner at The Chimes with friends from high school.
“All the state winners were called out on the stage,” Ryan Chenevert said. “We walked down the runway one at a time to strut our stuff. It was so exciting when they called my name as the winner.”
Chenevert was nominated for the award by Beth Burris, a friend from undergraduate school at LSU. He agreed to let her enter his name because of the prize money.
“I definitely have some student loan debt I would like to pay down,” he said. “I have definitely carved out a sum I would definitely give to a charity”
Chenevert, who learned last week that he had passed the Louisiana State Bar Exam, is clerking in Gonzales for 23rd Judicial District Judge Ralph Tureau.
