Military
CONGER RECEIVES AWARD: In September, the Folds of Honor Foundation announced that Capt. William T. Conger, a professor of military science in LSU’s ROTC program, was named the winner of the 2012 Distinguished Military Honor Award, which is presented annually to a Louisiana military member or veteran who supports the betterment and welfare of other military members, veterans and/or their community.
The award honors a life of service to the state and country and is awarded in memory of one of Louisiana’s fallen military heroes, Staff Sgt. William Austin Daniel.
In addition to his LSU duties, Conger serves as the commanding officer for Headquarters Company in the Louisiana National Guard. Highlights of his military career include serving in the U.S. Army infantry in South Korea and as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne serving in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
After his enlistment was completed, he re-enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he has served in various leadership positions over the past 20 years. He is an active member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Nation of Patriots and works with veterans group homes to ensure that those who have served the nation will be remembered for their great acts of selflessness in service to their country.
Conger will be recognized and honored at the annual Folds of Honor Patriot Awards Ceremony on Sunday. In addition, he will be awarded a special commissioned patriotic painting by artist Tony Bernard, which has been donated by Daniel’s family.
