OLLI chapter hears about black bears
Paul Davidson, executive director of the Black Bear Conservation Coalition, spoke to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at LSU’s Feliciana Chapter on Sept. 13 at First Baptist Church in St. Francisville.
The BBCC works to restore the Louisiana black bear. Davidson spoke about the life of the Louisiana bear and plans being implemented to improve habitat and establish corridors that are conducive for black bear recovery. He explained how this agency takes a pro-active stance to reduce potential for human-bear conflicts by providing training, bear-proofing systems and assisting with intervention when necessary.
OLLI classes are for those age 50 and up who enjoy learning and meeting new people. There are chapters in Baton Rouge, St. James Place and West Feliciana. New chapters are starting in Assumption and Ascension parishes.
