Kane, Rainey address Pachyderms of GBR

Kevin Kane, president of the Pelican Institute of Public Policy, and Lionel Rainey, founder of VoteGuards, spoke to the Pachyderms of Greater Baton Rouge on Aug. 23.

Kane discussed the impact of Gov. Bobby Jindal’s decision not to participate in the Affordable Health Care Act. Rainey spoke on efforts to fight the suits by the Department of Justice, Project Vote and the NAACP against the Louisiana Secretary of State Elections Division.

Mannen selected chapter sweetheart

Laureate Alpha Gamma chose Ruth Mannen as its 2012-13 chapter sweetheart when it met on Sept. 11 at Jean Leyda’s home. She will be presented at the Sweetheart Ball on Feb. 2 at the Gonzales Civic Center.

Gail Keller and Virginia Huffman led a program on the Louisiana bicentennial. Marilyn Mayeux said that clothes and money collected in September will be donated to the YWCA Early Head Start Program.
