ADOPTION COUNSELOR, Cat Haven — Candy Ray, (225) 636-2680 or cray@cathaven.org: Cat Haven is seeking volunteers for adoption counselors. Counselors build relationships with potential adopters and assist in finding cats that are a good match.
Volunteers may also assist with setup and/or take down of adoption materials at off-site locations. They must be 18 or older. Contact Ray for more information.
A WALK/RUN TO REMEMBER, Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area — Teri Brantley, (225) 334-7494: Alzheimer’s Services needs volunteers for its annual Walk/Run to Remember 5K on Oct. 20 at the LSU Old Front Nine. This is the organization’s largest awareness event which raises money for programs and services.
About 8,000 people participant in the walk/run which includes jambalaya, drinks, a band, a Children’s Village with activities and a Memory Market exhibitor area. For more information on volunteering, visit BRhope.com or contact Brantley.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, Junior Achievement — Paula Bradley, (225) 928-7008 or pbradley@jabatonrouge.com: JA Finance Park helps middle-school students understand personal financial decision-making through an experiential, real-life simulation.
Volunteers are needed to guide the students by spending the day at Finance Park from 8 a.m. until about 1:30 p.m. This event will be held Sept. 26 through Nov. 2. Contact Bradley for more information.
HELP FAMILIES AFTER LOCAL DISASTERS, American Red Cross — Barbara Bourgeois, (225) 456-5555 or bbourgeois@batonrouge.redcross.org: Be part of the team that provides the initial response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Become active after a brief orientation, then receive hands-on training during response and classroom training during the first year of service. To learn more, contact Bourgeois.
CORN MAZE VOLUNTEERS, Burden Horticulture Society — Simone Kramer, (225) 235-8896 or skramer@agcenter.lsu.edu: Volunteers are needed to help with a corn maze, pumpkin painting, hayride, straw mountain and balloon launch at Corn Maze at the Burden Center.
