“I’ve already met so many great people (as Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen) and have seen so many doors of opportunity open up for me. My goal this year is to represent Louisiana well and promote my platform “extra, extra: be all about it,” which explains the importance of involvement in extracurricular activities for today’s youth.”

Extra: Sumer is among 53 contestants, ages 13 to 17, in Orlando, Fla., competing through Saturday to be Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, “the little sister to Miss America.” She has been enrolled in honors and advanced placement courses since ninth grade and plans to obtain a degree in journalism and pursue a career in mass communication. At Zachary High School, she is the featured twirler and will perform a baton twirling routine for the talent portion of the Miss Outstanding Teen competition. She is also Louisiana Beta Club vice president and Zachary High School Beta Club president.
