DOG SHOW
Costumed pooches strut stuff for cause
There’s just something about a red carpet, the flashing lights of paparazzi, the cheers of an adoring crowd that makes males strut with a bit more macho confidence, females sashay with a bit more flair. That was definitely the case on a recent Saturday when Harley-Davidson quite literally went to the dogs for a Hollywood-themed benefit for Spay Baton Rouge, which offers low-cost spay and neuter services to people otherwise unable to afford the procedure for their pets.
Some 20 fashion-forward pooches donned tutus, sunglasses, even shoes to vie for top dog in the Harleywood K-9 Fashion Event. Celebrity judges for the competition were Murphy, Sam & Jodi from KRVE-FM, 96.1, “The River’s” morning show.
According to Spay Baton Rouge’s Noelle Harper, the event raised $545, which can help spay or neuter 20 cats, which left unaltered could potentially produce 550 cats in two years, or spay or neuter eight dogs, which left unaltered could potentially produce 240 puppies in two years.
