BR student gets second in national Physics Bowl
Felipe Hernandez, a 2012 graduate of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts scored the second highest in the nation on the National Physics Bowl Exam sponsored by the American Institute of Physics and the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Hernandez, of Baton Rouge, competed among 5,000 students from more than 250 schools across the United States and Canada in the most advanced division and region.
Hernandez also participated in training camp for the U.S. Physics Team at the University of Maryland-College Park.
He is the son of Elena Neill and Evelio Hernandez.
4-H state officers elected
4-H Club members from across the state in June elected state officers and members of the state 4-H executive committee.
4-H state officers elected for the 2012-13 school year are Hailey Johnson, Acadia Parish, president; Mary Johns, St. Charles Parish, vice president; Madison Bonsall, Cameron Parish, secretary; Peyton Arthur, Vernon Parish, historian/reporter; and Brittany Domingue, Acadia Parish, parliamentarian.
Newly elected executive committee members from the area include Brandon Dale, Lafayette Parish; Rudi Darouse, Tangipahoa Parish; Mckenna Jenkins, Tangipahoa Parish; and Rebecca Pearce, Pointe Coupee Parish.
Also, Hannah Martin, St. Martin Parish, and Shawn Fox, Ascension Parish, are among those serving a second term as Louisiana 4-H representatives at the 4-H National Conference in Washington, D.C.
Area 4-H members win
4-H Clubs from area parishes — especially from Pointe Coupee Parish — saw their students do well in the competitions held at LSU in June as part of 4-H University.
