Pop Quiz column for July 11, 2012

Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER: Jesse Hoggard, 29, director of communications for Louisiana Technology Park and president-elect of Forum 35 for 2013.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “A little bit of everything right now: Otis Redding, MGMT, Adele, Allman Brothers, Florence + The Machine. I’m also listening to Walter ‘Wolfman’ Washington, getting ready for Friday’s Art Melt Preview Party, where he’ll be performing.”

WHAT I’M READING: “I always have a few (books) going at the same time: ‘Medium Raw’ by Anthony Bourdain, and trying to finish ‘Coming Back Stronger,’ Drew Brees’ biography. I also just started ‘The Silence of Mockingbirds’ by Karen Spears Zacharias. It’s the One Book One Community summer selection.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “‘The Big Bang Theory,’ ‘Modern Family,’ ‘Happy Endings,’ anything on the Food Network, and you better believe I’m going to see ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘Dark Knight Rises.’’’

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “http://www.TheWeek.com, http://www.TechCrunch.com, and of course, http://www.LaTech
Park.com, http://www.Art
Melt.org, http://www.
Forum35.org and http://www.ReadOneBook.org.”

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “I’m sort of (still) addicted to video games.”

BONUS QUESTION:

How can art improve our community?

“I got to see, on the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s Canvas Workshop trip to Louisville, Ky., how a thriving arts culture is an integral part of any great city. It’s part of what attracts forward-thinking companies, entrepreneurs and other creative people to a place, and also what keeps them there.”

Editor’s note: Forum 35’s Art Melt, a multimedia art exhibit promoting Louisiana artists, will open Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St. Art exhibits will run for four weeks. Friday’s Art Melt Preview Party at the Shaw Center will feature music, food and an open bar. Tickets are $75.
