Happy Birthday!

Go help the Louisiana Art & Science Museum blow out the candles.

WHAT: The museum is celebrating its 50th birthday.

WHEN: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

DETAILS: This is a members-only night. Members should bring their cards. However, lapsed or inactive members and new friends may join at the door. Membership levels vary in cost (Example: Friend, $50, all privileges for one or two people; Family I, $75, all privileges for four, etc.) Additional guests of members will be charged $9 for adults and $8 for children/seniors. Food trucks will be outside the museum, and inside there will be an opportunity to decorate party hats and enjoy birthday cake. Other activities: design electronic jewelry and visit “Digital Paintings: John F. Simon Jr.,” tour the Ancient Egypt Gallery, shop in the museum store, learn with Dr. Spark and sing with Mrs. Dorothy the Shaky Egg Lady, and visit the planetarium and see “One World, One Sky” at 5:30 p.m. and “We Chose Space!” at 6:15 p.m.

Celebrity Waiters

Go mingle with LSU and SU coaches, and local celebrities as they compete for tips.

WHAT: The Baton Rouge Children’s Advocacy Center and its board of directors present the sixth annual event.

WHEN: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

DETAILS: Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door. There will be complimentary soda, beer, wine and food. There will also be one-of-a-kind live and silent auction items.

VIPS performance

Support Volunteers in Public Schools and its programs that benefit the children of EBR public schools.

WHAT: Baton Rouge Little Theater donates a portion of its proceeds from one night’s performance of “South Pacific” to VIPS.

WHEN: 6:30 p.m. wine and cheese, 7:30 p.m. curtain Wednesday.
