Garden Fest

Iron your overalls, though T-shirt and shorts are acceptable, and get out to the Burden Center on Saturday.

It’s Garden Fest from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with hayrides, garden tours, talks on fruit and vegetable research, and food.

Sample dishes prepared by representatives of the Louisiana Egg Commission, Louisiana Culinary Institute and East Baton Rouge Parish Ag Extension.

Dishes will be made from fresh vegetables grown at Burden, 4560 Essen Lane at I-10. Recipes and nutritional values will be provided.

There’s live music by Baton Rouge Music Studios and Visit Baton Rouge in the All-America Rose Garden from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There’s a children’s garden and displays by the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners, Burden Horticulture Society, Camellia Society, Herb Society, Bonsai Society and garden equipment companies.

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the Louisiana Egg Commission will be serving omelets from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

There’s a fresh tomato bloody mary contest from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The Baton Rouge Food Truck Roundup will sell food, and the LSU AgCenter Dairy Store will sell ice cream from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
