SIBLEY COMPLETES BASIC: Army Pvt. Michael M. Sibley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Sibley is the brother of Shavette Allen, of Baton Rouge, and is a 2010 graduate of Capitol High School.

HIGGINBOTHAM COMPLETES BASIC: Marine Corps Pfc. Thunder R. Higginbotham, son of Miranda L. Knox, of Denham Springs, and David W. Higginbotham, of Church Point, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

SOUTHERN NROTC STUDENT HONORED: The Navy Club of the USS Kidd — Ship 666 presented the Navy Club NROTC Award to Midshipman 2nd Class Nicole Gailliot on April 25 at the Southern University 40th annual Spring Review and Awards Ceremony. The award goes to the midshipman who has been most outstanding in promoting the U.S. Navy on the campus through participation in club-related activities. The award included an engraved plaque from the Navy Club.

Joseph Rickels and Herman Scallan of the Navy Club and NROTC Capt. Alton R. Ross presented the award.

Academic

NEBRASKA-KEARNEY GRADUATION: Anthony Ward, of Baton Rouge, received a bachelor of general studies degree on May 4 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
