HIV services

The following HIV services will be offered this week:

  • YWCA of Greater Baton Rouge, 8281 Goodwood Blvd., Suite B-1, will offer free, confidential HIV testing from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and by appointment Thursday; and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.   • Metro Health will offer free, confidential HIV testing from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Dr. Leo S. Butler Community Center, 950 E. Washington St. Hepatitis C and syphilis testing will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Family Service

Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge, 4727 Revere Ave., will sponsor counseling services for children, individuals and families who need help with emotional, behavioral and relationship problems from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the Child and Family Counseling Center. Trained experts can help with alcohol/drug abuse issues and family conflict/violence issues.

Woman’s Hospital

  • “Basics of Breastfeeding and Pump Pointers,” a small group class for women only that is recommended as a refresher class, or for women who prefer a fast-paced class, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Woman’s Center for Wellness. Cost is $20.
  • “Tyke Hyke,” a class designed to help prepare 3-year-olds for the new baby and mom’s hospital stay, will be from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the hospital, Conference rooms 2-3. Cost is $25 per child.

  • The Breastfeeding Support Group will meet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the hospital. Led by moms, it offers the opportunity to share stories and tips.
  • “GO4Life Seminar” will feature Cartine Tudor-Locke, Pennington associate professor, presenting findings from the recent Walk More Study and discussing how many steps a day are needed to stay healthy.
