Arnaud’s to host dinner for Bastille Day

Arnaud’s Restaurant will celebrate its French heritage by hosting a Bastille Day Fête at 7 p.m. July 14, which is the 225th anniversary of Bastille Day.

The New Orleans restaurant, 813 Bienville St., will celebrate French Independence Day with the wines of Louis Latour and French cuisine.

The Bastille Day Fête menu will include hors d’oeuvres of Soufflé Potatoes, Asparagus Prosciutto, Escargots and The Bastille Cup Cocktail; dinner of Pissaladière paired with Louis Latour Macon-Lugny “Les Genievres 2012;” Seared Scallop served with Marinated Mushroom Salad and Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse 2012; Contre Filet en Croûte de Sel with Louis Latour Marsannay 2011; and Lemon Tart with Simonnet-Febvre Cremant de Bourgogne Brut.

The menu will also feature a specialty cocktail — the Bastille Cup — created by Chris Hannah of Arnaud’s French 75 Bar. The cocktail includes Pineau De Charante, watermelon water, lime and maraschino cherry.

Praline demonstration set at French Market

Aunt Sally’s Pralines and Café Reconcile will demonstrate how to cook with pralines at 2 p.m. Sunday at the French Market Fare stage between Ursulines and Governor Nicholls streets in New Orleans’ French Market.

The free and open-to-the-public event will feature Café Reconcile staff making bread pudding stuffed with different praline flavors. Then Aunt Sally’s Pralines staff will show how to use the pralines to enhance and make a great snack.

At 2 p.m. June 29, Sarah Purcell, healthful eating educator at Whole Foods Market Broad Street will demonstrate how to prepare raw brownies by combining pecans and dried fruit to make brownies more nutritious.
