Summer is a wonderful time for lots of different fruits, including Louisiana strawberries.
Slow Cooker Strawberry Shortcake is a personal summertime recipe favorite, but don’t cook it too long. This will be one of those recipes best made as the cook returns home. Serve dinner while dessert takes its time in the slow cooker.
This shortcake has a blueberry twist. If you have blueberries, as I did, add a few after the shortcake is ready to make a red, white and blue treat in honor of the Fourth of July.
Reserve a cup or two of strawberries in the refrigerator for garnish and that fresh pop of color upon serving. Cooking on High will give the dough topping the chance to do a bit of browning.
This is a colorful dessert that’s sure to give your holiday celebration a touch of lagniappe, just the right hint of something extra.
