Red Stick Farmers market plans Fresh Fest

Red Stick Farmers Market will highlight the bounty of Louisiana’s summer harvest with its annual Fresh Fest celebration, which runs through Aug. 2.

Each Saturday will feature a different agricultural product found at the farmers market with a themed cooking demonstration, recipe cards and special activities. Children also will be able to participate in fun farm-to-table events on June 28 and July 26 as part of the Red Stick Sprouts kids club.

The Fresh Fest continues Saturday with Blueberry Bash. Upcoming events, held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Red Stick Farmers Market at Fifth and Main streets in downtown Baton Rouge, include Tomato Me Crazy, June 21; Corn & Squash-Tastic, June 28; Star-Spangled Saturday, July 5; Just Peachy, July 12; Melon Mania, July 19; Cool as a Cucumber, July 26; and Everything Eggplant, Aug. 2.

Galatoire’s Bistro in BR schedules beer dinner

Galatoire’s Bistro, 3535 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge, will hold a five-course beer dinner at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in its Banquet Dining Room.

The event will feature beer selections from New Belgium Brewing Cost is $60 per person, including tax and gratuity. Call (225) 753-4864 for reservations.

The menu includes Pancetta-Wrapped Saddle of Rabbit Stuffed With Wild Mushrooms and Arugula, topped with Pernod and Livarot Cream Sauce, paired with Lips of Faith Series Wild Dubbel; Snapper Ceviche Over Grilled Heirloom Tomatoes topped with Avocado, Corn and Shaved Fennel, paired with Snapshot Wheat; Belgium Hops Cold Smoked Ahi Tuna With Green Peppercorns topped with Char-grilled Peach Beurre Blanc, paired with Ranger IPA; 1554 Black Lager Braised Short Ribs Over Spring Root Vegetable Risotto topped with Espresso and Blackberry Jus, paired with 1554 Black Lager; and St. James Cheese Plate With Spiced Pecans, Blueberry Purée, Figs and Grilled Brioche, paired with Fat Tire Amber Ale.

Forum 35 hosting blind wine tasting

Forum 35 will host Uncorked, a blind wine tasting, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Ruffino’s Catering at De La Ronde Hall, 320 Third St., in downtown Baton Rouge.

Cost is $25 per person. The event will benefit Dreams Come True of Louisiana and Forum 35.

The event’s wine varietal is South American white wine.

Teams of one, two or three people are asked to bring three matching bottles of South American white wine. Two of the bottles will be bagged and numbered for a blind tasting and one will go into the top winner’s prize lot.

Attendees will taste wine brought by other participants, enjoy light appetizers and entertainment, and near the end of the event, participants will vote on their favorite and least favorite wine.

The first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced, and the loser will be given back his or her bottle of wine.

Royal Sonesta slates Round Table Luncheon

The value of locally sourced foods within New Orleans’ growing Farm-to-Table movement will be discussed at the Royal Sonesta’s Round Table Luncheon at noon Wednesday, June 18.
