For good fortune in the new year, Southern tradition says one must eat black-eyed peas and cabbage or greens on Jan. 1.
Members of the Junior League of Baton Rouge recently shared some recipes from their “River Road Recipes” cookbook series that would be good choices for a New Year’s Day menu with Red Stick Farmers Market visitors. The league volunteers prepared their recipes using fresh produce and meat products available at the market.
Their choices for dishes to get the new year off to a good start? A lemon-flavored cabbage salad and a soup with plenty of greens and andouille sausage.
