PARK CITY, UTAH — The Advocate’s food section staff received third place in the best newspaper food coverage category for newspapers with 200,000-and-under circulation in the 2013 Association of Food Journalists awards competition.
The award was presented Sept. 19 during the association’s annual conference.
Other winners in that category included the San Antonio Express-News, first place, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which took second place.
The awards, which started in 1986, recognize excellence in food journalism, including categories for reporting, editing, layout, columns, criticism and photography.
The Advocate was also recently recognized during the National Federation of Press Women’s 2013 Excellence in Communications Awards banquent in Salt Lake City.
Cheramie Sonnier received the first-place award for “single page, section or supplement regularly edited by entrant — newspaper.” Beth Colvin received second place for “specialty articles — Food.”
