Serves 1. This recipe by Mason’s Grill, 13556 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, won the Louisiana rum recipe cocktail contest during the 2013 Garden Fest at Burden on Saturday.
3 to 5 fresh mint leaves
3 to 4 blackberries, plus more for garnish
1 oz. of your favorite rum
3 to 4 ozs. lemon-lime soda or soda water with fresh lemon and lime juice
Squeeze of fresh lime
1/2 oz. simple syrup
Slice of lime, for garnish
1. Muddle the mint and 3 to 4 berries with the rum, then add the lemon-lime soda or soda water, a squeeze of lime and the simple syrup.
2. Shake and pour over ice. Garnish with a slice of lime and fresh blackberries.
