Winners named in Festival  of the Bonfires Contest

LUTCHER — Paulina residents Judy Martin, Katie Walter and Terri Meaney teamed to create a gingerbread lighthouse that wowed judges at the 2012 Festival of the Bonfires Gingerbread Winter Wonderland Showcase. The trio took the top prize, the Showcase Award, in the contest, held Dec. 15 at Lutcher Recreation Park as part of the 23rd annual Festival of the Bonfires.

Also winning prizes in the contest were:

  • Overall winners: The Nosackas, Cindy, Steven and Nathan, of Gramercy, first runner-up; Shelia Melancon, Lutcher, second runner-up; Donna Terrio, LaPlace, third runner-up; and Victoria Rocquin, Gramercy, fourth runner-up.
  • Child, 5 to 10 years old: Elaina Ruiz, first place; and Breanna Garza, second place.
  • Youth, 11 to 17 years old: Victoria Rocquin, first place; Courtney Roques, second place; and Cy’ara Gaudin, third place.
  • Adult, 18 to 59 years old: Pamela Louque, first place; Marissa Bourgeois, second place; Amanda Tamplain, third place; and Jeannine Stein, fourth place.
  • Seniors, 60-plus years old: Donna Terrio, first place.
  • Civic Group: Cub Scout Pack 59, Den 6, with leaders Laurie Roussel and Ryan Louque, first place; Cub Scout Pack 59, Den 1, led by Kenny Louviere, second place; Girl Scout Troop 20480, led by Trude Lambert and Vanessa Rojas, third place; Cub Scout Pack 59, Den 4, led by Bo and Terri Martin, fourth place; and Girl Scout Troop 20319, led by Jackie Copponex, honorable mention.
  • School classroom: Sherrie Oubre’s second-grade class, Paulina Elementary, first place; Stephanie Davis’ kindergarten class, Paulina Elementary, second place; Kathy Guidry’s prekindergarten through third-grade class, St. Peter Chanel School, third place; Roxanne Machen’s sixth-grade girls, Gramercy Magnet School, fourth place; Rebecca Hymel’s kindergarten class, Gramercy Magnet School, honorable mention; and another class of sixth-grade girls taught by Machen at Gramercy Magnet School, honorable mention.
